My 2.5 year old is obsessed with those little pouches of pureed fruits and veggies!  Every time I go grocery shopping I end up paying for one that he has sneakily opened and eaten in his little yellow car attached to the cart buggy.  Problem is, those pouches you buy in stores are NOT recyclable.

I discovered this awesome product called the Yummi Pouch.  The pouches have a zip top that allows you to make your own yummy flavor combinations for your babies and toddlers.  I was so excited to try these!  I have just started making veggie purees to hide in my kids’ food (don’t you judge me!!) so this was perfect timing.  I am able to use small leftover bits of purees, yogurt, applesauce or whatever I have on hand to make a Yummi squeeze treat for my toddler.  Best of all, we’re not contributing to the pile of pouch trash anymore!!

Here are a few tips I’d like to share when using your Yummi Pouch:

  • Be creative!!  I used 3 forgotten bananas that were ripe for making banana bread and 2 oranges.  I pureed these with my hand blender then strained them through a colander to get out the pulp.  This made up 2 pouches after I spilled some of it everywhere.
  • When using said hand blender, don’t leave it in the cup and walk away to get another orange.  It will tip over and spill everywhere.
  • Also when using said hand blender, hold the cup.  It will do cartwheels all over your counter and spill everywhere.
  • Use a spouted measuring cup to put the puree into the pouches instead of a spoon.  Trust me.  It’s SO much easier!!

These little pouches come in bright, fun colors!  They are dishwasher AND freezer safe which is so cool if you want to make up a bunch for the week for your kid’s school lunches.  ‘I filled up a pouch with some yogurt for my 6 year old and froze it.  It made a perfect freezer pack (hello space saver!) and was thawed by lunch time for him to eat!
