On my search for a low budget wrap, I came across the Inda Jani wrap.  I searched high and low but could only find ONE retailer of these beautiful handmade wraps, 5 Minute Recess.  The Inda Jani wrap is made on a loom by the hands of Zapoteca- indigenous men and women in Oaxaca, Mexico.  Each one is made with love and created to bring you and your baby closer together.

5 Minute Recess was created by Rachel in her attempts to not only help contribute to her family’s income, but also to make obtaining and returning wraps an easier process.  Rachel is a customer service master and wants EVERYONE to have the chance to baby wear.  By providing her customers with carriers in many price ranges as well as the option to do layaway, she strives to make sure no one is turned off of baby wearing for any reason.

Rachel sent me the most beautiful wrap called the Fular Yee Rojo.  It is a rainbow wrap with a red weft that gives the overall look of the wrap a warm feel.  The Yee Rojo wrap is a taffeta weave that is looser and lighter than a twill weave.  This makes is perfect for warmer climates and summer time.  Since I live in Texas, this was a very important feature to have in a wrap.  It gets extremely hot here in the summer and I love that the Yee Rojo will keep us cool and not all hot and sweaty.  Babywearing is no fun if you’re uncomfortable!

When the wrap first arrived, I committed a big wrap no-no.  I tried it out before I washed it, even though I got instructions NOT to do so.  Of course, I only wore it to “try it on” and snap a couple pictures because I was so excited about its arrival.  Since the taffeta weave is a looser weave, you want to make sure you wash (by hand) and dry (hanging) your wrap to tighten the weave before you really start using it.  You don’t want the threads to shift and make gaps because it could potentially be unsafe when wearing a heavier child.  Also, with these wraps with the fringe, you want to take extra good care of them when you wash them.  If you must wash it in the washing machine, make sure you put the wrap in a lingerie bag to keep the pretty little tassels from getting all tangled up.  Hand washing and hang drying always prolongs the life of the fabric though, so try to do that as much as possible.  Remember, if you put your wrap in the dryer with any heat, it WILL shrink!!

I was a wrapping newbie and I was so surprised at how comfortable the Yee Rojo was.  Despite being a thinner wrap, it is still very soft and squishy.  It is the perfect size for learning many carries and I really love how the weave design is different where the middle marker is.  It makes it so much easier to find the middle!  When I first “tried on” the wrap, I had my youngest son in it and up on my back in no time like I was a pro.  It’s really a lot easier than it looks and while there is a bit of a learning curve, it’s like riding a bike.  Once you get the hang of it, you want to learn all of the new tricks!  My youngest was comfortable and fell right to sleep on my back.  He felt completely supported and the wrap was not digging into me at all.  I am a plus sized mama, so I was kind of concerned it would.  The wrap is a lot squishier and more comfortable than I expected and I was really impressed with it.

I actually even have to admit something…  The wrap that I got was a second, which means it may have some slight imperfections.  Don’t ever let this scare you away from getting a bargain prices wrap!  I looked all over my lovely Yee Rojo and couldn’t find anything imperfect about it.  It’s a beautiful, comfortable and affordable wrap.  If you’re really wanting to dive into woven wraps, but can’t afford $100+, you should really give an Inda Jani a chance.  You definitely won’t be disappointed!  Luckily for you, Rachel was SO generous to ALSO donate a beautiful wrap for our giveaway!  You have the chance to win this lovely Itabiany Rojo wrap!  You are also all invited to join the Inda Jani Fan group on Facebook!
