My Crunchy #LocalLegends

Brought to you by summer lovin’, Texas heat, and Gymboree. If you make a purchase via these links, we’ll be compensated.

We usually have pretty low-key summers.  Being a large family, it costs a lot to go lots of places and do lots of things.  Occasionally doing some crafts, playing video games and swimming is our typical summer.  This summer is going to be EPIC!  We will also be taking our crafting to another level and sharing everything on Instagram as well as the blog here.  We plan on becoming local legends!! Poor People Like Ice Cream, Too

I didn’t ever anticipate that I would one day be a single mom of five children.  Being a single parent is always hard, but being on public assistance is even worse.  The looks you get, the comments you hear.  “I bet she keeps having kids to get more free handouts.”  “Wow, that’s a lot of food.”  Well, I do have a lot of mouths to feed.  As a parent, you want to give your kids what they like and want.

Being a food stamp recipient is not easy.  I would always feel like a burden when I used it or tried to hide it so no one could see what I was using to pay.  I always felt like I was being judged with every item that ran across the scanner.  What were people thinking?  “Why is this woman buying five boxes of toaster strudels and two gallons of ice cream?  Oh my GAWD, she’s paying with FOOD STAMPS?”  These people didn’t know that I was a struggling single mom.  They didn’t know they I worked every little job I could find.  They didn’t know that my ex, the father of my children, was in prison and I was getting no child support.  They didn’t know how my children’s faces lit up when I told them we were having the rare treat of ice cream for dessert. How to travel as an autistic adult

Heya! This post was previously published on Little Pink Kayak, but the site has been down for quite some time and I cannot get a hold of the owner. I wrote this in 2016, based on the experience from traveling to Austin with my cousin, Charlise (the owner of this blog) for the Austin food allergy fest. […]

How My Family Follows Their Art

This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links. I was compensated for this post.

Our family is into all different types of art and since I studied fashion design, I LOVE shopping for new clothes.  Art and fashion go hand in hand in our household and oftentimes, they blend together.

One of our favorite things to do as a family is go to the local hardware store on the weekends where they do kid’s craft workshops.  We build whatever kit is available that weekend; sometimes a birdhouse or a tool caddy.  After the project is put together, we get to our favorite part which is PAINTING!!  My kids love to draw, but painting really lets them let loose and brings out their creative side.

Occasionally we make HUGE messes and ruin our favorite shirt, but I try not to worry about it too much because it leads to MY favorite pastime of shopping!  I am a major shopaholic, so I love buying new clothes.  Gymboree is one of my favorite brands.  They make such adorable collections of clothing that are affordable and very well made.  Not only do they already have good prices, but they run awesome sales all the time such as the Spring Markdown Event where you can get up to 60% off on the cutest clothes for your critters!

Here’s the thing about #NetNeutrality…

The battle to save Net Neutrality is here again—I’m so tired of worrying about it every. single. month. Remember the dial-up days? That’s what we’re looking at if we lose Net Neutrality in the United States. The internet stops being available in one fell swoop of a package and becomes like cable/satellite providers—do you want social media with that? […]
