I have been wanting to try some homemade elderberry syrup for a while. With our crazy weather here in Texas and having 5 kiddos (3 who are in public school), we get a nice variety of germs and colds coming our way. All of my crunchy mom friends had been talking about what great stuff it was, so I was pretty stoked when I found out my friend Kate (who also sells Young Living) makes elderberry syrup and tooth powder!! She was more than happy to bring me some for a review and giveaway!
I first tried the elderberry syrup because I was in the middle of round two of our colds and my youngest was getting his second round of pinkeye. The first time he had pinkeye, I got it as well which was SUCH a pain in my rear. I usually wear contacts so I had to use my glasses for a while until it cleared up. I took the elderberry syrup religiously during round two and by the miracles of elderberry, I did not contract pinkeye despite the high chances. My youngest is always rubbing his face and mine so I was just SURE I would get it. I couldn’t believe it when his cleared up with me never getting it!! The elderberry syrup is made with dried elderberries as well as some other things like clove in a honey base so it is not recommended for children under 1. It’s really soothing when you are sick since it has the warm, “holiday” taste. Elderberry helps relieve symptoms of the flu as well as allergies so I continued to take it until it was gone and have been feeling 100%!! I wish I had had it during our first round of sickness!
After I got over my sickness, I tried the tooth powder. It’s very different from regular toothpaste as it doesn’t bubble or foam. I would recommend using a small baby spoon to scoop it out of the jar onto your toothbrush. I’m not sure what would be a better way to dispense it, but that works for me! The toothpaste is made of only 6 ingredients (4 are organic) including bentonite clay and cinnamon. I absolutely LOVE the cinnamon flavor and it is sweetened with organic stevia so it’s not bitter or gross. It actually tastes delicious and makes my teeth feel really clean. It takes a little getting used to since it is so different from regular toothpaste, but I love that it is free from all the junk that is in mainstream toothpaste.
If you would like to order some tooth powder, please contact Kate via the email below! You can also order some elderberry syrup if you are in our local DFW area as it has to remain refrigerated!! You can also join Kate’s Concoctions on facebook to learn more!!
