When I was a kid, my nan was the go-to person for any illness. Her arsenal of home remedies was impressive, especially when it came to dealing with the flu.
She had this knack for whipping up random natural ingredients, some leaves and other things I that I didn’t understand at the time but worked wonders every time.
I would feel better the next day, no matter how severe my sore throat or dry cough was. One of her most potent mixtures was a blend of apple cider vinegar, garlic, and honey.

Now, as an adult, I find myself gravitating towards these traditional remedies, especially after watching a few TikToks about the benefits of garlic and honey. My boyfriend and I decided we must try this remedy for flu prevention.
His job is physically demanding and involves being in close contact with many people daily, so he often feels run down and a little under the weather. I believe this recipe could be a fantastic addition to our lifestyle to help keep those rundown days at bay.
Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a type of vinegar made from fermented apple juice. The unfiltered version contains the “mother,” a mix of proteins, enzymes, and good bacteria.
ACV has a wide range of medicinal uses and health benefits, including improving cholesterol levels, aiding weight loss, and boosting heart health. I
t’s also been noted for its anti-inflammatory effects and potential to reduce blood sugar levels and body fat. Laboratory studies have shown ACV can help kill harmful bacteria and free radicals, making it a popular ingredient in detox baths and natural remedies.
Garlic

Garlic is a powerhouse when it comes to health benefits. It’s renowned for its antibacterial properties and its role as a fantastic antibiotic and immune system booster.
Traditional medicine has long used garlic to treat respiratory problems, sinus infections, and chest congestion.
It’s also been linked to reducing blood pressure, improving cholesterol levels, and enhancing heart health by protecting the coronary arteries and blood vessels.
Garlic’s active ingredient, allicin, provides anti-microbial benefits and has been studied for its effects on cold symptoms and other conditions.
Honey

Raw honey is not just a delicious natural sweetene but also a potent remedy with a multitude of health benefits. I started using honey in my hot drinks and I love it. It has antibacterial properties and is known for soothing throat pain and easing dry coughs.
Honey is packed with antioxidants that combat free radicals and support the immune system. It also has anti-inflammatory effects and can help with digestive issues, promote feelings of fullness, and even aid in weight management by reducing waist circumference.
Traditional remedy enthusiasts also use honey for its ability to enhance the flavor of various dishes, from salad dressings to meat dishes.
Ginger (Optional but Awesome)

If you want to add a little ginger to the mix, go for it! Ginger is fantastic for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It helps with digestion, reduces nausea, and can combat respiratory tract infections.
Plus, it’s been shown to lower blood sugar levels and improve heart health by reducing cholesterol levels.
I know not many people enjoy the strong taste of ginger, but I absolutely love it. Its spicy kick is refreshing and adds a unique flavor to the remedy.

I made this the other day (Friday) and just checked on it and the garlic is turning green! What does that mean? I’m afraid it went bad but don’t know exactly.
Hi Susan, if you’re not sure about it then it will be best to discard that one and start again. With the honey, normally it can last a few days in the fridge but if it looks like it went bad it will be better to re-make.
