Days 1-10: Getting Started

The first week of the challenge tackles those spaces we often ignore: the basement, garage, kitchen drawers, and more. Start by sorting through physical items like old cleaning supplies or junk drawers filled with rubber bands and plain old lists.

Don’t forget to clear off kitchen counters and sort through your coffee table. The best way to avoid overwhelm is by focusing on one area per day. This is a great time to check expiration dates on food and small appliances you rarely use.

Decluttering for the Planet

One of the biggest reasons to declutter is that it’s better for the planet – especially if you keep up with this mindset going forwards. Reduce over consumption and buy less, only things you really need or have a purpose for – you will have a cleaner tidier home, more money in your bank account, and can feel good about not being a part of the problem.

By choosing to live with less stuff and repurposing what you don’t need, you reduce the demand for new products and cut down on waste. Donate your items in good condition to local libraries, thrift shops, or even an animal shelter. These small actions make a big picture impact on creating a more sustainable future.
