Green tea is a star antioxidant, renowned for its high levels of antioxidants that help combat free radicals, known to cause premature aging.

The catechins in green tea, especially those in organic green tea extracts or powders, are excellent for promoting skin health. They offer antimicrobial properties that can be beneficial for acne-prone skin by reducing inflammation and bacterial growth.

This makes our Green Tea and Citrus Soap Bars not only refreshing but also a potent ally against common skin issues.

For me, as soon as I focus on including more green tea in my day it instantly gives me a boost and I feel refreshed. We’ll walk you through this easy green tea soap recipe as well as talking more about the green tea soap benefits.

Green tea powder can be made from any variety of green tea, but the most well-known and often used for cosmetic and culinary purposes is matcha. Matcha is a type of high-quality green tea that is grown and prepared in a specific way to increase its nutritional value.

The specific type of green tea used can influence the final product’s quality and benefits, and matcha is an excellent choice for a skin-soothing soap.

Make sure you choose a good quality product for the most benefits from your green tea soap. You can also use green tea leaves and crush them yourself, if you prefer that over using the green tea powder.

Using the leaves rather than the powder can slightly shorten the shelf life of your finished handmade soap, so just be aware. If you’re making small batches for personal use it shouldn’t really be an issue.

Note: For a vegan-friendly version of the soap, you would replace the goat’s milk melt and pour soap base with a plant-based alternative. There are several vegan soap bases available that are made without any animal products.

A few option are to use an olive oil soap base, hemp oil soap base or a coconut oil soap base.

Directions for the Green Tea Soap Bar Recipe

  1. Preparation: Start by cutting your Goat’s Milk Soap Base into 1-inch cubes. This makes the melting process quicker and more uniform.
  2. Melting the Soap: Place the cubed soap base into your measuring cup and heat it in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Be sure to stir the soap between each interval to ensure it melts evenly and doesn’t overheat. If you’re not comfortable using the microwave then do this step on the stove top as an alternative.
  3. Adding the Essentials: Once the soap base is fully melted, allow it to cool slightly. Then, add in the essential oils and stir well to distribute them evenly throughout the mixture.
adding essential oils
  1. Incorporate the Green Tea: Add the green tea to the mixture and stir well. The green tea not only adds a layer of antioxidant properties but also gives the soap a unique, earthy look and a gentle exfoliating effect.

  1. Pouring the Soap: Carefully pour the soap mixture into your molds. If you see any bubbles forming on the surface, you can lightly spray them with rubbing alcohol to achieve a smooth finish.

  1. Setting the Soap: Allow the soap to set and harden for about 2-3 hours. Avoid moving the molds during this time to ensure the soap sets evenly.
  2. Unmolding: Once the soap bars are fully set, gently release them from the molds. If they stick, you can pop the molds into the freezer for about 10 minutes and try again.

Tips for Perfect Soap Bars

  • Temperature Matters: If the soap mixture cools too much before you pour, it can start to thicken and become difficult to work with. Keep it warm but not hot when adding the essential oils and green tea.
  • Decorate Your Soaps: Get creative with your soap bars by adding dried herbs, flower petals, or even a sprinkle of more green tea on top before they set.
  • Storage: Store your finished soap bars in a cool, dry place. If you made many, wrap them in wax paper or keep them in an airtight container to maintain their freshness and scent.

These soap bars are crafted with natural ingredients like goat’s milk, making them suitable for a range of skin types.

Goat milk soaps are particularly known for their gentle exfoliation, which helps remove dead skin cells without stripping the skin of its natural oils. This process helps to maintain a healthy skin tone and can alleviate conditions like dry skin or oily skin.

And the addition of bergamot and citrus oil gives these soaps antibacterial properties, which is ideal for those with oily or acne-prone skin.
